Chile: welcome to José Matiz!

Universidad Santo Tomás (UST), the academic partner of the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in Chile, has just appointed José Agustín Matiz Hinostroza as the academic and administrative coordinator of the FIFA/CIES Programme organised jointly since 2008.

José Matiz, aged 29, studied sport management at the New Zealand Institute of Sport and subsequently completed the UST/FIFA/CIES Programme in Santiago.

José is currently the managing director of the Equestrian Federation of Chile, tasked with administrative, financial and technical management of the institution, as well as relations with sports entities in the country (Ministry of Sports, National Sports Institute, National Olympic Committee). He also held various responsibilities in the framework of the 2014 World Equestrian Games, the FEI Americas Jumping Championship Chile 2014, as well as the 2015 Young Rider Championships. He will also serve as a mission leader during the Pan-American Games that will be held in Toronto in July 2015.

In his new duties, José will support the team consisting of Rodrigo Alvarado, UST/FIFA/CIES Programme Director, Michael Boys, CIES coordinator in Chile as well as Carolina Mora Elias, administrative assistant.

When it comes to hobbies, José has a great passion for football and trail running… He recently ran the 70 kilometres of the “Patagonia Ultra Trail Run 2015, San Martín de los Andes” in Argentina.

After welcoming him as a student, the FIFA/CIES International University Network is pleased to cooperate with José as a member of the UST academic staff!
