FIBA and CIES issue third edition of International Basketball Migration Report

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) and the International Basketball Federation FIBA have teamed up for the third year in a row to bring the International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR), which provides an insight into the migratory trends of the sport.

Like the second edition (published in late 2013), the IBMR covers the basketball season, covering the period from 1 July 2013 to 30 June 2014.

Combining FIBA's knowledge and data on international transfers with the renowned expertise of the CIES Observatory, the IBMR focuses on the international migration of players per basketball season.

The report shows that a total of 7,031 transfers involving 5,537 players took place over the course of the 2013-14 campaign.

In this, its third edition, the IBMR extended its scope of analysis, comparing 20 national and international leagues (compared to 16 last year) across a wide range of parameters and also incorporated the top level of US collegiate ranks (NCAA Division I Men and Women).

For the second year in a row, the report includes a section on league comparison that uses different player criteria (age and height; foreign players; U21 players; turnover of players within teams/leagues) to compare and contrast the 20 different leagues.

The section 'International leagues' has been improved to provide more complete information on the NBA, WNBA, Euroleague and EuroLeague Women.
