The Universidad San Martín de Porres (USMP) in Lima, a CIES partner since 2012, has officially started the enrolment procedure for the 4th FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management to be organised in Peru. Classes will start on 26 April 2016.
The FIFA/CIES Programme allows people from various professional and sporting backgrounds to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as sport marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finances and event management. Adapted to regional and national requirements, it also offers the opportunity to attend lectures given by international experts invited by FIFA and the CIES.
It should be noted that since 2014, USMP has taken the excellent initiative of organising study trips. To date, students have had the opportunity to discover and better understand the sporting situation in other countries (conferences, visits to sporting organisations, participating in sporting events). Indeed, students of the 2nd edition travelled to Argentina to visit Boca Juniors and River Plate. Participants from the 2015 Programme travelled to Chile in the context of the Copa América.
Alumni testimonials emphasise the strong points of the Programme. As d’Oswaldo Yalta, Head of Sports - Lima Cricket & Football Club (2015), puts it ”The experts taught us in a very dynamic way. They always tried to improve our skills as managers. (…). Thanks to the USMP/FIFA/CIES Programme, I founded a new company in sports management together with three classmates.”
Jorge Koechlin, Director of Auto Mundo TV (2015) adds: “Participating in the USMP/FIFA/CIES Programme was very fruitful. In particular, the course aims to give a more professional dimension to Peruvian sport. There is no doubt that it is a high level educational course. Our country will rake in the positive outcomes of this programme soon.”
USMP is a member of the FIFA/CIES International University Network which includes academic partners in sixteen countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine, Peru, Poland, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela.
