About UCR

Founded in 1940, UCR is a public and autonomous university whose origins go back to the 19th century. It comprises some 35'000 students in 12 faculties, and has 9 regional campuses throughout Costa Rica.

The Universidad de Costa Rica’s activities are based on certain key principles: contributing to the creation of a society in which fairness, prosperity and freedom are given precedent, promoting social change and national economic development, taking part in the progress of science, the arts, humanitarianism and technology, and offering high level cultural education to students. The direct partner of CIES is the School of Physical Education and Sport which was founded in 1988. The Universidad de Costa Rica has been a member of the international university network since 2008.
