FIFA/CIES University Network Prize: The Jury has decided…

The Jury responsible for awarding the 2018 FIFA/CIES University Network Prize held its annual meeting at SDA Bocconi - School of Management in Milano on 26 January 2018.

After careful consideration of the respective qualities of the 15 works in competition, the Jury has awarded the 2018 FIFA/CIES Network Prize to the project “Green Card: Creating a Sustainable Stadia System in the United Arab Emirates”. The work was presented by Abdulrazzaq Al-Mahmood, Atanas Tarkalanov and Damir Valeev who graduated from the 2017 edition of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organised by Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.

The Jury also awarded special mentions to two projects. The first, titled “Volunteers for Sport: Be in Sport, be a Volunteer!” was submitted by Mahmoud Hadadra, Madleen Abu Hatab and Waseem Misk from Birzeit University in Ramallah (Palestine).

The second project, presented by Facundo Cino, Juan Franchini and Nicolas Scipioni (Universidad Católica Argentina), is titled “A basis for the development of the Professional League of Futsal in Argentina” (“Bases para el Desarrollo de la Liga Profesional de Futsal Argentina”).

At the end of the meeting, the Jury members emphasized that, “We had very high quality projects on the decision making table. It was not an easy task to decide between the three finalists.”

Finally, the Jury wished to congratulate all the participants for their final project work. Each one could apply innovations to the field of sport in a practical way. All the topics addressed transferring and using models examined during the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme for the benefit of local stakeholders. These projects demonstrate the richness and dynamism of this Executive Programme.

It is worth noting that the winners will now have the opportunity to travel to Switzerland and visit the “Home of FIFA”, the CIES headquarters in Neuchâtel and to present their work to the 18th edition FIFA Master class!
