The first edition of "After Office Sports LATAM" took place on 5th April 2021. It brought together 7 former students of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management who have all developed interesting careers in football.
Hosted by Sebastián Rubio, CIES Coordinator in Peru, and Michael Boys, CIES Coordinator in Chile, the event aimed to bring together students and alumni of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Latin America online, as well as further promoting the programme throughout the region.
Seven FIFA/CIES Executive Programme alumni - including three women - shared their experiences: Ivy Plansencia (Peru), Licensing Manager - Peruvian Football Federation; Javier Gonzalez (Venezuela), former professional football player, FIFA Master alumni and Project Coordinator - FIFA Development; Gustavo Silikovich (Argentina and Ecuador), former CEO - Club Atlético River Plate and General Secretary - Ecuadorian Football Federation; Mauro Silva (Brazil), former professional football player and Vice President - Federação Paulista de Futebol; Fausto Gonzalez (Costa Rica), Lawyer - Deportivo Saprissa S. A.D; Alejandra Cassi (Chile), Head of Sponsorship - Club Colo Colo , as well as Barbara Blanco (Argentina), Director - Racing Club Avellaneda.
The speakers highlighted the importance of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in their professional careers and the challenges that football-related organisations - from national federations, regional entities to clubs - have had to face since the beginning of the pandemic. Topics covered included the changing distribution of resources in sports organisations, the need to creatively redefine and develop relationships with sponsors and fans, player transfers in times of crisis, the creation of new platforms to manage fan interactions, and the emergence of new revenue streams such as sports betting and eSports.
The "After Office Sports LATAM" will be organised on a regular basis and will allow for the discussion of current issues related to South American sport and football.
