POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT
Interview avec

Allan V. Crane | diplômé 2020

What is your current professional activity? And your involvement in sport?
Owner: Caribbean Action Images - Sports Stock Photography Website and Services. Provides photojournalistic content for media and marketing consumption.

Why did you choose to study the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus?
The program is designed with working professionals and their busy schedules in mind, providing the student the opportunity to exercise his/her time management skills. The distant learning approach, particularly now more than ever before, is convenient and efficiently engaging. The program is designed for success.

What were your expectations before the start of the course? And… were they met?
I was uncertain as what to expect before the start of the course. It had been 9+ years since undergrad and I was concerned of being academically behind. I thought classmates would have a strong fan mentality as in undergrad, however I’m proud of each of my cohort members, their high degree of professionalism and rooted interest in careers in sports in the Caribbean Region.

What would you say are the key strengths of the UWI/FIFA/CIES Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management?
The facilitators and the program coordinator are the key strengths of the program, with their ability to stimulate thoughts and principles in the sports management process.

What benefits (on a personal and/or professional level) did you gain from attending the course?
A new understanding, and skills developed to plan, execute and maintain executive management strategies towards successful company goals.

How have the courses offered by the programme aided in developing your knowledge, competencies, and skills?
As a "learning-as-we-go" entrepreneur each course developed the principle understandings of the topic and I actively developed strategic planning for my sports related business. I wish I did this sooner but everything in its time.

How has the programme contributed to your professional growth and employability?
My writing and professional communications skills have improved.

What is your best memory/highlight of the course?
The debate team/assignment in the Sports Law module with Mr. J. Tyrone Marcus. That was fun and interesting.

Would you recommend the UWI/FIFA/CIES Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management? Why?
I would recommend the UWI/FIFA/CIES Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management to anyone who is committed to improving their management skills while keeping current with the modern Caribbean sport environment and having a passion for improving the current state of sports, across the board, from the NSO’s management, facility management, event/project management and marketing/partnership. This could be internal stakeholders of NSO’s, professionals in the primary to secondary school curriculum, entrepreneurs, professionals with community outreach interests.
