Jose Guevara Colindres | diplômé 2022

What is your current professional activity? And your involvement in sport?
Team Manager for the Halifax Wanderers Football Club.

Why did you choose to study the FIFA/CIES Programme in Sport Management at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus?
I was looking for a program that would help me get a jump start in the sports industry. Having the opportunity to be in a remote program allowed me to study and put into practice what I had learned.

What were your expectations before the start of the course? And… were they met?
My expectations from the program were to learn from experts in the matter, jump start my career in sports, and build my networks in the industry.  I can say that expectations were surpassed.

What would you say are the key strengths of the UWI/FIFA/CIES Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management?
A couple of key strengths from the program are the support given by UWI staff and program lecturers, having experts in the material as lecturers, the seminars, and the proactivity of the cohort.

What benefits (on a personal and/or professional level) did you gain from attending the course?
On a personal level the program has equipped me with knowledge to start my career in sports and also build my network in the Caribbean football associations. On a personal level, the prestige of the program helped me secure my first job as partnerships coordinator for a professional football team in Canada and later on receive a promotion once completing my certificate.

How have the courses offered by the programme aided in developing your knowledge, competencies, and skills?
The courses taken in the programme are well designed to become an all around sports management leader. I believe the finance course helped me become more confident in my financial skills in the sports industry.

How has the programme contributed to your professional growth and employability?
On my professional growth and employability, I was able to secure a job with the Halifax Wanderers Football Club, who is part of the recently created Canadian Premier League.

What is your best memory/highlight of the course?
My best memory of the course is working with my peers on group projects. I was able to create friendships and networks with different classmates that I hope in the future I will be able to meet them in person.

Would you recommend the UWI/FIFA/CIES Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Management? Why?
Yes, 100% I would recommend it for anyone that is looking to either jump start their career or get more knowledge in the subject and become an all around sports management manager.
