Palestine: Students from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organise “Challenge Your Age... Age is Just a Number”

On 20th July 2018, the students of the 8th edition of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management, which is organised by Birzeit University in Ramallah (Palestine), launched within the framework of the event management module, a social and sports event which met with great success in the local community

The event, named “Challenge your Age… Age is just a Number”, allowed men and women above the age of 50 to cover a distance of approximately 2.7 km in the streets of Ramallah. It met with great success both in the media and in the local community, leading to the idea of organising another edition of the event in 2019.

Dr Laila Ghannam, Governor of Ramallah and Al Bireh, encouraged participation in the race and even took part herself: “This is an excellent idea, even more so given that the profits will be allocated to the “Right to Live Society” in Gaza. In addition, age is not measured by a number of years, but by health, love and the desire to share.”

For his part, Marwan Tarazi, Director of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Palestine, represented the Birzeit University Continuing Education Centre. During the event, he commented: “My colleagues and I are delighted to see our students successfully put the theoretical knowledge taught in class into practice.”

Under the supervision of Muntaser Edkaidek, the head of the event management module, the students of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme were given the task of  ensuring the smooth organisation of the  event and, in particular, regarding aspects relating to financing, sponsors, media coverage and volunteers.

Marwan added: “Such events contribute to the learning process for our students, which is essential. Furthermore, they allow us to promote the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme and its diverse activities in Palestine.”

We extend our congratulations to Birzeit University and its students on their remarkable initiative!
