Twenty-one new students – including 5 ladies – started the fifth edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme organised in cooperation with the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) located in San José. They will follow courses for six months before presenting their final group project on a topic linked to national sport.
For the fifth edition of the Programme, UCR is innovating with a “mixed” Programme combining distance learning and presence in the classroom. The objective of the University is to open the course gradually to all sports organisations in Costa Rica, and later in Central America.
“We cannot rest on our laurels. That is why I am happy and proud that we now offer fundamental management tools to all federations, clubs and associations of the country and the region”, commented Dr Carmen Grace Salazar Salas, Director of the School of Physical Education and Sport which organises the FIFA/CIES Programme.
In light of the specificity of distance learning, the CIES representative drew the attention of the new students to the need to keep up their motivation over the months and to make full use of the time in the classroom to share their experiences and develop their contacts.
CIES wishes to thank the entire UCR team – Yamileth Chacón, Judith Jiménez and José Moncada – as well as Margarita Echeverria, CIES coordinator in Costa Rica, for their pioneering initiative and excellent work.
