Start of the 7th FIFA/CIES Programme in Costa Rica

Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), a partner of the International Centre for Sport Studies (CIES) since 2008, inaugurated the 7th edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management on 27 February at the Headquarters of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCF) in San José.

28 students attended the inauguration ceremony of the 7th edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in Costa Rica presided by Walter Salazar, Director of the UCR School of Physical Education and Sport, in the presence of CIES President Bertrand Reeb and of FCF General Secretary Rafael Vargas. Attracted by a perfectly organised mixed curriculum (classroom time and online courses), eight of the new students hail from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.

“The FIFA/CIES Programme in Costa Rica is a success story” exclaimed the CIES President. “This is shown by the success of the new course format offered by UCR which has allowed the Programme to open up to all the provinces in the country but also to several other Spanish-speaking regions in Central America and South America. We can only thank the University authorities as well as our friends Yamileth Chacón, Judith Jímenez, Margarita Echeverria, José Moncada and all the faculty members for the excellent work done.

We should also note that two FIFA/CIES Programme leaders in Costa Rica - Diego Brenes (Programme alumnus and head of the communication module) and Alfredo Quiros (head of the management module) took part in the 14th edition of the FIFA Master in 2013-2014.

CIES thanks the FCF for its warm welcome and wishes the new students every success in their discovery of the different facets of sport management.
